An American couple and their three children from Coalmon, Tennessee, have been living their self-sufficient lifestyle on a homestead for 11 years. Amy Rae and her part-time physician assistant husband, Caleb (both 40) bought 90-acres of lands in 2007, and two years later they built a small home on it for them to live in before starting a family. This family no longer has an electricity bill and they all eat what they produce on their own farm.

Now the family has 30 highland cattle, 15 alpacas, 30 goats, 10 sheep ewes, 40 ducks, other poultry and two beehives. The family's rural life means that they don't need the large supermarket for food. They get power from solar panels with a gas generator for backup, they collect rainwater in a 22,000-gallon tank with a well for backup, they have a propane tank for cooking with and a woodstove to provide them with heat.
