A couple who has had six miscarriages is mourning the death of their first child after she was left in a hot car in New Mexico.

Two-year-old Zariah Hasheme was left in the car for six hours last week after her babysitter, Tammie Brooks, forgot to drop her off at her nursery in Hobbs, according to the BBC.

Brooks has been arrested and charged with abandonment or abuse of a child resulting in death.

"I would not wish this pain and this hurt upon my worst enemy," Zariah's mother, Demi Petrowski, told KOB-TV.

The father, Zachary Hasheme, said the girl had recently called him "Dada" for the first time.

The BBC report says Zariah was the 42nd child in the United States to die of heat exhaustion this year after being left in a hot car.

Earlier this month, 20 automakers representing 98 percent of new vehicles sold in the United States have agreed to install reminders in an effort to stop heatstroke deaths. By 2025, nearly all new vehicles sold in the country will come with electronic alerts to remind people not to leave children behind in the back seat, by giving drivers audible and visual alerts every time they turn off the ignition.
