A collection of dramas performed by school children from around China will be staged in Beijing starting November 21.

Most of the performances were developed as part of the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Yin Xiaodong is the head of the China National Theatre for Children. The theatre is one of the co-sponsors of the performances.

"The China Publishing Group has worked well with us and recommended books about the growth of the Communist Party of China, and also excellent books about traditional Chinese culture. Those books have become the foundation for us to create dramas."

The books chosen include "The Long March" and "Railway Guerrilla".

Yin said the student performances, which have become an annual event, showcase the achievements in the development of campus drama courses in recent years.

"Schools in China are paying closer attention to the overall artistic development of students. Through school drama courses and arranged activities, schools are cultivating a team spirit among their students."

The theatre also sent staff to campuses to train primary school children during their rehearsals.

After experts have reviewed all of the performances, around 30 will be selected to be shown to the public from November 21 to December 4 in Beijing.
