Green commuting means eco-friendly traveling with less exploitation of the land and less damage to the environment. It creates a better commuting environment.

Liu Daizong is the director of China Sustainable Cities Program at the World Resources Institute. He’s in charge of promoting green development and low-carbon development in Chinese cities. In 2018, Liu participated in renovating the slow-lane system in Beijing’s CBD. This is a micro-circulated public transport system.

In this video, Liu tells of the development of China’s transportation circle. In 2004, China launched its designated bus lanes and Bus Rapid Transit. After 2010, the nation accelerated the construction of the subway system. Green commuting began playing an increasingly important role in the urban transportation sector after 2018. It provides better commuting services for pedestrians and cyclists. A bicycle-only lane near Longze subway station in Beijing opened in May 2019. Commuting by bike is once again becoming popular as people see it as a way of leading a new life. In Liu’s opinion, with the emergence of new ways of transportation in the future, we are dealing with the changes in infrastructure upgrades, traffic rules, laws and other regulations.
