Lin Kuocheng works for The Nature Conservancy, responsible for the Inner Mongolia project. Inner Mongolia stands right on the critical Northern Sand-Control Belt. By 2015, his team had managed to plant close to 3 million trees on 2,600 hectares of degraded land in Horinger of Inner Mongolia and helped to repair the region's biodiversity.

At the beginning of the project, there were fewer than 30 species in the area. Now there are more than 80. The vegetation coverage of the land is close to 90 percent. The village of Horinger is in an agricultural and husbandry interlace zone. The ecology is rather weak. So Lin has introduced a series of sustainable development programs to help the locals boost production and protect the environment. Lin introduced the technique of dry farming into the village. They have managed to stabilize production as well as increase the farmers' incomes.

What has touched Lin most is what the local people told him: sandstorms are fewer and the mountains are lush. All of the programs in Inner Mongolia are centered on fighting against climate change, a major challenge faced by the entire world.
