Lv Yupan lives with her family in Baiyantu Village, Horinger of Inner Mongolia. They grow fruits and vegetables in their own courtyard. They used to be reluctant to spend money on expensive food like meat. But now they can afford to buy almost anything they want to eat. Life used to be bitterly hard, but now, where there was bitterness, there’s sweetness.

There are five people in their family. Lv’s elder brother grazes sheep. Lv and her husband do the farm work and also some part-time jobs when they have time. She cooks meals for a local company. Lv’s husband waters plants for the company. Their son and daughter-in-law both work away from home.

Lv’s family moved to the new residential community in 2014 which was built for the villagers in 2008. Each family has an apartment. Their apartment is around 90 square meters. The rural cooperative provides them with an automatic mulching machine which spares them from watering or hoeing. There’s a lot of mechanization in farming. So they have a lot of free time to do part-time jobs to earn extra money. The cooperative taught them the proper way to raise sheep as well. It’s said that the techniques work quite well. Lv feels satisfied with her life. The whole family is living in harmony.
