The Dongnian Festival, also known as the Dong New Year, is usually celebrated on the first day of the eleventh lunar month by people from the Dong ethnic group. Because the festival marks the end of the autumn harvest, people hold celebrations to enjoy the leisure time that follows the busy harvest season. They prepare traditional cold dishes for the festival, including bean curd, fish, and shrimp. Dances and bullfighting are also part of the celebrations. The festival was listed on China's national register of intangible cultural heritage in 2011.
Dong people are famous worldwide for their "Grand Songs" performance, which is a traditional polyphonic style of choir singing.
