"Our college has decided to formally accept 81-year-old Li Zhixin and 70-year-old Meng Qingli from Sanguanmiao village as new students this year. The admission procedures have been completed, and a notice will be sent to them soon," Zhang Shijun, the dean of the college, told a reporter during a phone interview on Wednesday.

The college will provide a tuition fee waiver to the two elderly applicants. They will be able to take many of their classes at home over the Internet, with the exception of some compulsory lessons on campus.

This year, the college enrolled 1,640 students, including 533 retired soldiers.
