The Great Wall of China in focus in a children's drama
The construction of the Great Wall, a symbol of China and its culture, will be portrayed in an upcoming children's drama.
The China National Theatre for Children said it hopes The Legend of the Great Wall will enable modern Chinese children to understand the huge obstacles that ancient workers had to overcome in building the Great Wall.

The play kicked off with the famous Chinese tale of Lady Meng Jiang, crying the Great Wall down. Lady Meng's son originally hates the construction campaign which took the lives of his parents. But as soon as he gets to know its importance in peace and security, he becomes active in building it.
Director Wang Xiaoying is National Theatre of China's former executive vice president. He said the drama was written from the perspective of children, using elements of magic and folklore.
The Legend of the Great Wall is due out on Dec 15.
At least one of the four or five plays produced by the children's theater each year is dedicated to China's traditional culture.
