In this episode of Chords of China, we will talk about a plucked string instrument-the pipa.

Being regarded as "the king of Chinese classical instruments", it is known for its expressiveness and the wide range of its sound. It can not only deliver emotions, but can also describe scenes. Sometimes it's aggressive and powerful, at other times, it's tender and romantic. It's outstanding in ensemble, and it's impressive in solo. All in all, it's an incredible story-teller.

Joining us today is the world-class pipa instrumentalist Zhao Cong. She's going to demonstrate how the pipa tells stories at her hands.
