China's National Information Center published a comprehensive report on the current state of the Chinese sharing economy. In 2016, the transaction volume of the sharing economy in China reached 3.45 trillion yuan (USD503), an increase of 103% compared to the previous year.

After the tremendous success of bike-sharing in China, sharing portable chargers is the latest initiative to come out of the Chinese sharing economy marketplace. This latest project hopes to help people whose smartphone is out of power when they cannot access to their chargers in a public area.

However, a large number of netizens have criticized the initiative, saying that sharing portable chargers may be waste of money, since they are very cheap and because sharing chargers may present safety concerns.

If there was an app for sharing portable chargers in your area, would you use it?
