The Chinese government has been aware of the growing number of people struggling with disabilities in the country. In light of this, disability prevention and promoting rehabilitation services has become an important job for the various Disabled Person's Federations around China.  CRI's reporter visited a family in Beijing that has two disabled children.

He Wei's two sons have cerebral palsy. His 22-year old sons are twins, and were born premature. They received the 9-year compulsory education in a school designed for children with mental disabilities. This was followed by a 3-year career training course. Currently, both of his sons have received care and respect from different sectors of the society.

He Wei spoke highly of the support received from the community, educational institutions, disabled persons' federations, and society.

He Wei's family is an example of the 85 million people with disability in China. The large-scale National Sample Survey on Disability was conducted in 1987 for the first time and then again in 2006. The number of people with disability has increased six-fold over the course of 19 years. According to the China Disabled Persons' Federation, rehabilitation services covered about 950 municipal districts in 2016, compared to just over half that in 2003.

Listen to the report and find out more about people with disabilities' life in China, and what are the difficulties they encounter in their daily lives.
