A Chinese businessman, surnamed Lu, has bought one of the oldest resorts in Canada, according to local news portal YorkRegion.com.

Lu took over 200-year-old Briars Resort in Jackson's Point after winning a bid involving 40 other investors. The Briars Resort, covering 135 acres, has more than 100 guest rooms.

Briars Resort vice-president Hugh Sibbald said that Lu's plan was the most suitable solution to develop the resort, protect the local environment, as well as support local employment and the community of Jackson's Point in the province of Ontario.

The Briars Resort has a long-standing connection with China.

Sibbald says his family purchased the property where the Briars Resort is now located in 1878 with the income his ancestors earned from investments in China.
