The delivery of an enormous natural gas fuel tank from China to a Scottish shipyard has been completed.

That's according to Scottish local news portal, inverclydenow, who report that the tank is one of two that will be delivered to fuel new ferries being built in Port Glasgow.

The vessels will form part of the fleet of Caledonian MacBrayne, a company who specialise in providing ferry services in Scotland.

The first tank to arrive had taken eight weeks to travel to Glasgow from Shanghai by sea.

Because it will hold natural gas, the tank will help Caledonian MacBrayne to lower their emissions when their new vessels are compared to their older ones.

This is not the first time that a Chinese company has helped a European one to lower maritime pollution.

Last week, we reported that the construction will shortly begin of four new flexible and fuel-efficient RoPax ferries at the Chinese shipyard AVIC on behalf of Sweden's Stena Line.

The vessels will be delivered during 2019 and 2020 and the plan is to locate the new ships on Stena Line’s Irish Sea routes.

Stena Line is one of Europe's leading ferry companies with 36 vessels and 20 routes in Northern Europe.
