A new maglev train has been tested in Shanghai.

China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation says it hopes to have the new technology on the market sometime in the coming year.

The new model being tested is designed to run at speeds of 120-kilometers per hour.

It's designed to be used for urban transport.

China Railway Rolling Stock says its new model is going to be cheaper than conventional subway trains.

A similar model of maglev train was put into operation in Hunan's capital, Changsha, last year.

China became just the 3rd country in the world to adopt magnetic levitation technology when the Shanghai Maglev line opened in 2004.

However, the cost of the technology at the time limited its development.
