Starbucks customers can now use Alipay to purchase a cup of coffee

Alipay has released a new statement, saying that from September 25th on, over 2,800 Starbucks stores across the Chinese mainland will be promoting the use of Alipay through a coupon.

Consumers will be rewarded with a 5 yuan coupon (slightly less than 1 U.S. dollar) if they spend more than 50 yuan per-purchase before October 15th.

This is not the first time that Alipay has teamed up with Starbucks. Last month, Alipay was launched in all 242 Starbucks outlets in Malaysia, with the goal of attracting Chinese tourists. The two companies also launched a marketing campaign in Malaysia.

Alipay has been trying to expand its international reach since 2015.

The online payment method is now available in over 30 countries and regions and supports 27 currencies.
