Bord Bia - the Irish Food Board - has been hard at work promoting Seafood in China.

According to the Irish Examiner, Bord Bia - as the Irish Food Board is officially known - recently took part in the China seafood expo.

This three day trade event built on previous promotions, industry networking and even cookery demonstrations to promote the benefits of Irish seafood to Chinese businesses and consumers.

Board Bia has recognised that the growing demand for quality fish and meat amongst Chinese consumers makes the country an excellent market for potential growth.

When it comes to seafood, exports from Ireland to China have been growing at a rapid pace.

Earlier in 2017, we reported that Irish beef was set to be promoted in China thanks to a multi-million pound investment from the European Union and the Irish Food Board.

Ireland exported 70,000 tonnes of pigmeat to China last year, and 1,500 tonnes of beef.

Securing access for Irish lamb to both China and Japan is high on the Department's list of priorities and discussions have taken place with both countries in recent times on next steps to opening the markets there.
