In a press communique released on Tuesday, Huawei said the successful test of a communications network for vehicles based on 5G network and known as 5G-V2X, is a major step forward in expanding the 5G ecosystem.

The 5G-V2X technology will allow sensors within vehicles to share information in real time and is a key application for the transport and infrastructure sectors.

It is vital to develop services such as assisted driving, driving by remote control and the simultaneous driving of fleets of trucks.

However, Huawei added that the 5G new radio system for vehicle-to-vehicle communication has to be improved before fully automated vehicles are a possibility on the road.

Enrique Blanco, global chief technology officer of Telefonica, called the test "another step towards the commercialization of 5G and a fully connected society.
