The news has been received by local businesses as one of many signs that the East of England is strengthening economic ties with China.

Huawei's interest in the area comes alongside Chinese automotive company, Geely, who have bought UK based Lotus and is keen to expand the brand into the ever popular electric vehicle market.

It was reported last week that Huawei had made a £3 billion commitment to the United Kingdom.

The telecommunications giant has revealed that it will spend the money on procurement in the country over the next five years.

The announcement comes after a recent meeting between British Prime Minister Theresa May and Sun Yafang, Huawei's Chairwoman.

It could see the Chinese company investing in licences for British technology, research and development, and production facilities.

Huawei became one of the first international companies to restate its commitment to the United Kingdom following the general election of 2017.

Despite Prime Minister Theresa May losing her parliamentary majority, the company was quick to say that it had invested over £1 billion in research, development and marketing in Britain, and would seek to maintain its position as one of the leading Chinese investors in the country.

Huawei has a significant presence in the United Kingdom market, with offices in Basingstoke, Ipswich and London.

In sales terms, it has enjoyed significant success, becoming the third largest manufacturer in the country, behind Apple and Samsung.
