China Southern Airlines is ultimately planning to apply for permission to operate flights on the busy air route between Beijing and London.

That's according to specialist publication Aviation Week, who report that the airline has the ambition to launch flights between the two cities after expanding its current range of destinations in China from London Heathrow.

Currently, the route is flown by British Airways and Air China.

The news comes after we reported last week that direct flights between Sanya, on Hainan Island, and London, will be available for the first time from July.

China Southern has revealed plans to serve the route using its Airbus A330-200 aircraft, adding to its existing services at London Heathrow Airport.

The flights will actually originate in Guangzhou, before stopping in Sanya and then flying direct to London.

The route will operate twice every week, offering travellers a wide choice of First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

Therefore, as well as offering travellers the option to fly to Sanya, China Southern will also be adding options for those who wish to travel between London and Guangzhou.
