China's usage of cloud storage doubles in 2017: report

China more than doubled its use of cloud storage in 2017, with public institutions' use surging more than 10 fold, according a report from internet giant Tencent released Wednesday.

The report, jointly released by Tencent Research Institute and Tencent Cloud, shows the country used 133 percent more cloud storage in 2017.

IT is the biggest consumer, accounting for 79.1 percent, while most of users are in big cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the report shows.

Public sectors saw cloud usage surging more than ten times in 2017 as the country pushes to provide public services online, according to the report.
