Alibaba, Xiaomi among companies authorized for virtual operations

Fifteen companies have acquired a formal license for virtual operations from the country's industry regulator after nearly five years of pilot operation, reports CCTV.

Companies earning their V/O licenses include Alibaba Cloud and Xiaomi Tech.

They are now allowed to resell their mobile telecom services, according to a notice issued on Monday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

A total of 42 companies were given pilot licenses for virtual operation at the end of 2013 after the Ministry began allowing for the resale of mobile telecom services.

Ministry officials say they intend to release an annual report on the development of the mobile telecom in the country.
