Beijing to open "taxi-like" bus service

The Beijing Public Transport Corporation is planning to open a "taxi-like" service in which passengers can order a bus online and take it with people heading to the same destination.

Beijing Youth Daily reports that the new service will operate only if there are enough daily passengers along the route.

The Public Transport Corporation says it expects the service will be more flexible for riders, as they no longer need to take the buses with fixed routes. 

The Beijing Public Transport Corporation operates the majority of Beijing's public bus services.
