Residents of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from this month can consume through AlipayHK e-wallet in the Chinese mainland cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the online payment service provider announced on Wednesday.

Signage for Ant Financial Services Group's Alipay, an affiliate of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., is displayed outside a store in Hong Kong, China, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016. The urgency to prepare regulatory environments for fintech is growing as banks begin offering digital services such as biometric authentication and as mobile-payment systems such as Apple Pay and AliPay are introduced around the region. When travelling to the Greater Bay Area, AlipayHK users can present their app at any locations that accept AlipayHK, including hotels, restaurants and convenience stores. Users can also shop at shopping malls in Japan via AlipayHK, a popular destination for Hong Kong tourists.

Smart mobility and smart travel are two major initiatives of AlipayHK, said Jennifer Tan, CEO of AlipayHK.

As for transportation, AlipayHK supports several green minibus routes, said Tan.

Tan also expressed her wishes for further cooperation with operators of transportation vehicles including buses, taxis, ferries and tramways.
