Huawei to help build high-speed networks in Canada's remote areas

Huawei Canada has promised to take measures to help citizens living in the Arctic and remote areas of Canada get access to high-speed internet, reports China News Service.

Huawei plans to work with local telecom companies ICE Wireless and Iristel to accelerate the construction of telecom infrastructure and make sure the smooth running of wireless equipment under extreme cold conditions in those areas, according to the report.

In 2025, at least 70 villages and remote areas of Canada, including 20 communities in the Arctic region and 50 others in northeastern Quebec, are expected to be covered by the 4G LTE network. Some residents living in Newfoundland & Labrador will also benefit from the program.

Over 1,000 local workers in Canada will be trained on information technologies as of 2020 and some of them will also have the chance to study in China, according to Huawei Canada.

Local telecom enterprises and government officials in Nunavut said that Huawei is a reliable, world-class telecom equipment provider, and affordable high-speed internet and wireless network coverage is vital to the social and economic development to the Arctic region.
