The environmental police in China's capital Beijing have solved their first air pollution case since the unit was established two months ago.
According to Beijing Youth Daily , the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau found during an inspection that a staff member surnamed Zhao at a heating power company had operated a desulfurization equipment illegally, which caused sulfur emissions ten times higher than the required standard.
The Bureau fined the company and reported the case to the environmental police.
Through investigation, the police confirmed that the company and Zhao discharged pollutants illegally and avoided supervision by irregularly operating pollution controlling installations.
Zhao has been detained by the police.
The environmental police have also dealt with illegal sewage discharge, garbage dumping and the improper handling of hazardous wastes over the past two months.
