An attempt to use hand gestures to overcome a language barrier has resulted in an amusing haircut for a Welsh dog in Shenzhen.

WalesOnline first covered the story of Seren the dog, which has now been picked-up by media outlets around the world.

He's the pet of teachers Leigh and Kat, who are originally from Merthyr Tydfil but moved to China nine months ago.

Unfortunately, Leigh's mastery of the local language is not yet sufficient to ask for a moderate trim for Seren in hot temperatures.

So instead, report WalesOnline, he went to a dog groomers and mimed the sound and gesture of hair clippers.

The staff instructed him to return four hours later by pointing to a clock. So far, so good.

As you can see above, Seren got a close trim then expected! For some breeds of dog in China, Seren's cut is a normal style - however, it's not one that's often seen in Wales, so you can imagine Leigh's surprise when he saw it.

Newspapers have been quick to find the story funny. 'Even the dog knows that it's bad' quipped the Daily Mirror!
