The first China-Europe freight train from London has arrived back in China after a round trip to the British capital which started back in January.

The express service from Yiwu, in China's Zhejiang province, was launched at the beginning of the year, and shaves two weeks off the usual journey by sea.

The return trip started on April 10 and took 19 days to complete covering a total distance of 12,000 kilometers.

The route took the train via the Channel Tunnel to France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan, before reaching Alashankou City in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and eventually travelling on to Yiwu.

Its cargo included baby milk, soft drinks and vitamins.

The service is part of China's push to strengthen trade links with western Europe as part of the Belt and Road initiative which brings together more than 60 countries in trade, cooperation and development along a modern-day 'Silk Road' route.
