Elderly man becomes would-be traffic cop

A video footage shows an elderly man in Hainan's provincial capital, Haikou, helping direct traffic amid a massive rain storm in the city on May 20, 2017. Torrential rains in Haikou dislodged a number of manhole covers, creating a potentially deadly scenario for both pedestrians and vehicles. The elderly man, armed with only a red plastic bag, stood guard for around an hour to prevent cars and people from falling victim to an open manhole.
