Chinese Go Chess prodigy Ke Jie has dropped his first match against Google's AlphaGo.
The 19-year-old began a best-of-3 series against Google's artificial intelligence-based Go system on Tuesday morning at a week-long competition underway in the historic town of Wuzhen, east China's Zhejiang province.
The dual is the latest contest between elite human Go players and AlphaGo, which has been developed by Google's DeepMind. The program defeated South Korean Go master Lee Se-dol 4-matches-1 in March, 2016.
On the eve of the closely-watched opener, Ke Jie posted a message on his Sina Weibo account: "No matter win or lose, this will be my final contest against AI".
The next match will take place on May 25.
