Authorities with the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO have decided to expand a World Heritage Site in China as part of their sessions in Poland, reports The Paper.cn.

The World Heritage border in the Wuyi Mountains has been expanded to include sections which fall across the provincial border into Jiangxi.

Originally the demarcation only covered mountains on the Fujian side of the border.

The Wuyi Mountains, famed for their natural beauty and unique climate features, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Register in 1999.

UNESCO had already added the Hoh Xil region of Qinghai, as well as Gulangyu Island off the coast of Xiamen in Fujian, to its Register as part of its current session in Poland. This gives China 52 World Heritage sites.
