31-year-old Ferguson Naquan was handed over at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in Guangdong Province early on Friday morning to be returned to America.

Naquan was involved in a robbery at a jewelry store in the US state of Connecticut in September 2011. He was arrested two years later and pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery with a firearm, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and first-degree larceny charges. He was later sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in jail, followed by nine-and-a-half years of special parole.

Before he could start his sentence in October 2014 he went on the run.

The International Criminal Police Organization published a Red Notice about Ferguson in May 2015. In February this year he fled to Guangzhou where he was arrested by Chinese police following a request from the US side.

China has conducted increasingly close cooperation with police officers globally including the US police, said an officer from the Ministry of Public Security.

The fact that Chinese police arrested the fugitive and handed him over to the US side within six months shows Chinese police's zero tolerance to transnational crime and the willingness of international cooperation in pursuing fugitives and recovering stolen money and goods, said the officer.

Earlier this year, the US police handed over a serious offense criminal and an economic criminal fugitive to Chinese police.
