Senior citizens over the age of 50 can enjoy free Karaoke sessions at several large KTV chains in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, reports Yangtse Evening Post.

In collaboration with the entertainment companies, cultural institutions in Jiangsu Province have launched a benefit program called "Sunshine Entertainment: Sunset Glow," aiming to provide the elderly population with cultural and recreational activities.

Those who are over the age of 50 can show their ID cards to register for a special card, which allows them to sing at KTVs for free or just pay a little for drinks.

The preferential treatment is provided during off-peak hours from 9 am to 5:30 pm.

Since the program began, several KTV operators say they have seen an increase in their business volume.

Free Karaoke has now become a new entertainment option for the elderly, who seldom visit entertainment venues.

Figures show two major KTV chains in Nanjing saw a daytime occupancy rate of 80% on China's Double Ninth Festival earlier in October, which is a traditional Chinese holiday dedicated to seniors.
