Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, announced that its GDP reached 1.02 trillion yuan (157.1 billion US dollars) last year, becoming the 13th city in China with a GDP of one trillion yuan.

Among the 14 cities, the GDP of Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen has already surpassed two trillion yuan.

Shanghai was the first city in China that reached a GDP of one trillion yuan in 2006. Beijing followed suit in 2008.

A city which hits the trillion yuan GDP mark is said to be a milestone, as its now considered a regional economic center, reports The Beijing News.

The report also contends the milestone means younger people now have more opportunities in other cities, instead of the first-tier cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
