A court in south China's Guangdong province has given a security guard a three year suspended sentence for killing a man with a rubber bullet after he attacked a cash courier vehicle.

The victim, a Jiangxi Province resident surnamed Huang, was killed after he was hit by a rubber bullet intended as warning shots after he ignored several warnings to stop attacking the vehicle on October 27, 2016.

An investigation found that the victim attacked the courier vehicle with bricks, stones, and other objects, smashing a window.

The case was heard in Dongguan Intermediate People's Court on February 1, 2018. The court found that Liang Jinming, the security guard, was guilty of intentional injury because he used excessive force.

Liang's punishment was mitigated by the fact that he turned himself in voluntarily after the incident.

The company Liang worked for has reached out to the victim's family and offered compensation.

The court did not confirm the reason Huang attacked the cash courier. Earlier media reports say there might be a collision between Huang's electric bicycle and the cash courier.
