Baby Xiaotao, who was only 24 weeks old when he was born, is now relatively healthy and is about to be discharged from hospital, reported Chinanews.com on Monday.

According to doctor-in-charge Zhang Yong at Shanxi Provincial Children's Hospital, Xiaotao had the shortest gestational period of any surviving baby born in Shanxi to date.

Xiaotao's expected date of birth should have been on February 23, 2018, but he was born on November 8, over 100 days earlier, because of the mother's health condition.

Xiaotao's blood vessels were like pieces of hair, his skin was easy to break, and his organs were far from fully developed. After 118 days' treatment in hospital, Xiaotao survived two severe infections and now weighs 3.3 kg.
