The announcement was made after the Administration of Radio and Television held talks with Toutiao and another live streaming App Kuaishou over videos on their platforms described as being against social morality and causing dissatisfaction among the public.
Toutiao promised to move live streaming videos with vulgar, pornographic, or violent content off its platform, stop new users from uploading videos, and investigate all existing user accounts.
It also said it would control video-checking procedures, expand the checking team, and raise checkers' awareness of illegal content.
On the same day, Kuaishou also gave its promise to ensure a clean environment for users.
Over the past week, it was frequently reported that many videos with improper content, including those selling fake goods or promoting teen pregnancy, existed on Kuaishou and three live-stream platforms owned by Toutiao.
