China's first self-developed communications satellite has successfully sent signals for commercial use, reports CBN Daily.
The success of the Tiantong I-01 satellite means China is now self-efficient in the telecommunication sector, which had previously relied on services from foreign satellites. The name Tiantong translates into "sky connection" in English.
The Tiantong I-01 satellite can offer telecommunication services anytime, anywhere within China. Its coverage also extends into the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean.
The land services of the Tiantong I-01 are run by China Telecom and are part of a mobile communication network.
China's first satellite mobile phone loaded with a Tiantong system chip has also been revealed. The device can use land and satellite data, switching between the two depending on signal strengths.
