The woman, surnamed Wang, claimed she was injured after an IKEA cup she had put heated water into exploded as she was preparing to drink from it in May, 2017.

She claims she lost two of her front teeth, as well as sustaining other injuries to her mouth, from the malfunction of the "Stelna" cup.

A court in Daxing District in Beijing has decided to award the woman 40,000 yuan in damages.

However, she is planning to appeal the ruling, as she was hoping for a one-million yuan settlement.

IKEA is also appealing, saying the woman was never able to prove that the glass in-question was one of its products, which the company says are resistant to temperatures of some 200 degrees celcius.
