Thanks to the efforts of a blind make-up artist, many visually impaired girls in Beijing have come to learn to apply makeup themselves and also be more confident with their appearances, reports the Beijing Youth Daily.

Xiao Jia, who was an art student in high school, started losing her eyesight at the age of 14 and was forced to enroll into a special education school. Like many other visually impaired girls, she became a massagist after graduating from the special education school.

However, the loss of eyesight never discourages Xiao Jia from her passion for art and beauty. She started learning how to do makeup after receiving the help from a professional make-up artist during a public welfare activity.

In almost two years of learning and practicing, Xiao Jia grasped many skills in doing makeup including recognizing and using the proper cosmetics.

Since 2016, many visually impaired people have contacted Xiao Jia and consulted her about doing makeup after she shot a video applying makeup and posted it online.

"During the years, I have taught about several hundreds of visually impaired girls about doing makeups," said Xiao Jia, who has been attending public welfare activities organized by the organizations for the disabled and also the China Braille Library.

One of Xiao Jia's students said that doing makeup not only makes her look better but also increases her self-confidence.

In the future, Xiao Jia is planning to share her skills in applying makeup with more visually impaired people through the application for the government purchasing services.
