Job fair behind bars helps prisoners find work

According to thepaper.cn., a job fair held behind bars in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, has helped over 140 female prisoners find jobs ahead of their release from jail.

A total of 15 recruitment points were set up during the fair at a Chengdu-based women's prison on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.

Over 200 inmates who are serving their sentences attended the event, and 144 of them have since received job offers.

The jail had organized a job skills training for all its prisoners, providing courses covering various sectors including catering services, housekeeping services, property management and nursing care for the elders.

Luo Lili, chief of the prison, said the purpose of the skills training and the job fair is to encourage society to give former inmates a second chance by providing more job opportunities once they are released from prison. Luo said this is very important to their transformation and reintergration back into society.
