Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge test run

Three days of test runs have been completed on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The local governments in Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao have backed the various tests, which have included different kinds of vehicles to test road conditions.

A journey along the 55-kilometer long bridge takes roughly 40 minutes.

Authorities say a new mode of "cooperative inspection and one-time release" at the Zhuhai and Macao ports has significantly shortened customs clearance times.

The testing has also involved passengers going through mock customs clearance procedures, which authorities say takes no longer than 10 minutes.

Emergency response times have also been tested, dealing with stalls and accidents on the bridge.

Travelers can also take local transit between Hong Kong and Macao, which costs between 170 to 220 Hong Kong dollars. Authorities anticipate around 2,000 people are going to use the transit services on a daily basis to start with. Payments are based on the value of the renminbi, and can be made through online payment services such as WeChat and Alipay.

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge is among the longest fixed-links in the world and is a major landmark in the area.
