Minneapolis police deny reports that the woman involved in the sexual misconduct case involving Chinese billionaire Liu Qiangdong has been arrested.

Police spokesman John Elder issued the denial to the Beijing News on Tuesday.

The founder of the Beijing-based e-commerce site JD.com was arrested in the US on August 31 on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct. He was later released without charges or bail.

Minneapolis police have finished their initial investigation and turned the case over to prosecutors for possible charges. So far, Hennepin County prosecutors haven't announced whether charges are forthcoming.

Elder earlier said that he couldn't provide any details of the case because the investigation is considered active. He declined to say where in Minneapolis Liu was arrested or what Liu was accused of doing.

Minnesota law defines five degrees of criminal sexual misconduct ranging from gross misdemeanors to felonies, covering a broad array of conduct ranging from non-consensual touching to violent assaults with injuries. The jail records for Liu don't indicate a degree.
