A memorial run to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge was held Sunday morning.

About 2,500 runners participated in the event, which set the whole distance of the shuttle run on the bridge at 6.8 kilometers to mark the bridge's opening in 1968.

50 people who were born in 1968 and 50 representatives of the bridge's repairers were specially invited to the event.

The memorial run also included an array of 400 people organized by the sponsors and 1,968 runners chosen from applicants by random lotteries.

The landmark Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, whose renovation work will soon be completed, is the first ever Chinese-designed bridge constructed across the Yangtze River.
