Teacher sentenced to jail for abusing children

An ex-teacher at the RYB Education New World kindergarten in Beijing was sentenced to prison for abusing children.

The female teacher named Liu Yanan was sentenced to one and a half years in jail for piercing four preschool children with needles in November of 2017.

Liu was also banned from working as a kindergarten teacher or caretaker for five years.

The kindergarten came under great criticism after footage showing children being abused went viral last year.

Based in Beijing and listed in New York, the RYB Education has more than 1,300 day care centers and nearly 500 kindergartens in 300 cities in China.

According to Chinese law, whoever abuses a minor under the age of eighteen shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years or criminal detention.
