Wang was assigned to the site by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Premier Li Keqiang, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.

Forty-seven people were killed and 90 others seriously injured after the explosion ripped through a chemical factory located in an industrial park in Xiangshui County of Yancheng City at about 2:48 p.m. Thursday.

Xi on Friday demanded that all-out efforts be made to search those trapped, and the injured be timely treated and relief work be well done to maintain social stability.
