Clean energy to power all Beijing Winter Olympic venues

The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will be the first Winter Games in the Olympic history whose venues will all be powered by clean energy, reports People's Daily.

From July 1, the first batch of seven Beijing Winter Olympic venues and affiliated facilities including the National Stadium (the Bird's Nest) and the National Aquatics Center (the Water Cube), will start to use green electricity, according to the state grid.

Green electricity is generated from sustainable and non-polluting sources like wind, water, biomass and solar power.

A plan featuring measures to reduce carbon emissions before and during the Games was released on International Olympic Day on Sunday.

According to the plan, passenger vehicles used at the Games will be powered by new energy. Charging stations and hydrogenation stations will be installed for official vehicles in competition zones.

Clean-energy shuttles will be available to connect high-speed railway stations and spectator parking lots to all the venues.
