13 injured, buildings damaged as moderate quake hits Sichuan

At least 13 people were injured when a magnitude-5.6 earthquake jolted Gongxian County of Yibin City in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Thursday morning, local authorities said.

All the wounded have been sent to the hospital.

The tremor damaged houses and minor roads, but main roads in the affected-area remain in normal operation.

The earthquake occurred at 10:17 a.m. local time, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter, with a depth of eight kilometers, was monitored to be located at 28.41 degrees north latitude and 104.74 degrees east longitude, the CENC said.

Some roads in the county and power supply in some areas were affected. Local authorities said they are checking the quake losses and repair work is underway.

Last month, two earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 and 5.4 hit the region. The quakes had affected over 155,000 residents, killed four people and injured over 120.
