Music fans will have the opportunity to spend a night on the Great Wall accompanied by the sounds of the renowned British-German composer Max Richter, who will come to China during the National Day holiday to perform his monumental eight-hour-long composition, "Sleep".

"This year celebrates the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China," explained Yu Long, the founder of the Beijing Music Festival. He said the pursuit of dreams in the performance has echoes of China's era, and explores connectivity among people.

"It's a special highlight of the upcoming festival. This piece is quite popular in Europe and in the United States," added the festival's new artistic director, Zou Shuang.

This year's Beijing Music Festival will open on October 4. The producers are keen to explore new styles of classical music that have cutting-edge contemporary forms of expression. And for younger audiences, the festival includes a children's program.
