Chinese president, premier condemn London terrorist attack

Both Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang have strongly condemned a deadly terrorist attack in London that killed five people and injured 40 others on Wednesday.

President Xi sent a message of condolences to British Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

In his message, Xi strongly condemned the terrorist attack and mourned the innocent victims. On behalf of the Chinese government and people and in his own name, Xi extended his sincere sympathy to the injured and the bereaved families.

Xi stated in the message that terrorism is the common enemy of the international community, and that China firmly opposed all forms of terrorism. President Xi said China was willing to strengthen cooperation with Britain and the international community and make positive efforts to safeguard security in China, in Britain, and across the world.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday also condemned the terrorist attack.

Li is paying an official visit to Australia, and said during a welcome banquet in Canberra that both he and his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull have offered condolences to the British Prime Minister Theresa May over the London attack.

Both of them strongly condemned the act of terrorism, and firmly opposed terrorism in any form, Li added.
